Speed knitting

I do like my hairdresser, but recently she sheared me. When I went to get a trim last week, the word 'short' must have been mentioned at some stage (eg "my, what a short skirt", or "yes please, a short black would be great"). Regardless of the context though, I came away with very, very short hair. The shaver was even used!

I walked in the front door, thanked the Knit Widower for his supportive gasp because clearly it could only be a gasp of admiration, not, for example, shock, and immediately cast on a Thermis.

Once the Thermis was off the needles, it was clear it needed some mates, so I whipped up yet another pair of Evangelines with the left over yarn (Sundara, Royal Footguards worsted weight).

Now I am much toastier, but still quite shorn.

When you're on a good thing....

stick to it! This week I've managed to whip out nearly two pairs of Evangalines for two very dear friends who live in the Blue Mountains.

Both sets of gloves are made from Noro Silk Garden, and while the colourways do tend to drown out the cable pattern, I think the gorgeous colour gradation makes up for this. The longer, pink 'n' purple gloves took just over one ball. I think if I cut back a couple of rows on the wrist band and finger band I wouldnt have needed the extra metre or so of yarn that went into the dark purple thumb band. The shorter greeny-mauvey-purplely gloves will take just under one ball. I used a stretchy long tail cast-on for both pairs, which also soaked up that little bit extra yarn.

Other things to love about Noro - the occasional burr left in the yarn even after processing, the scratchiness that even the silk doesnt temper, and Noro's signature - the big fat knot in the middle of the ball that introduces a completely new colour.

Equ and Evangeline

Australia's leading sock model, Equ, has recently relocated to the international city of love, Canberra. Because I miss her and she is a top model who hasnt experienced a Canberra winter (cold, by Australian standards. That means you can actually wear hand knits.)I thought I'd whip her up a small, but glamorous present.

Equ, meet Evangeline.

I used Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in what I'd call imperial purple, but is otherwise known as colour 330014. In terms of mods, I did six repeats of the cable to make a mid-forearm length glove rather than the almost elbow length.

Evangeline is a lovely, quick and gratifying knit!
